Wedge Gate Valve and Parallel Gate Valve

Sep. 10, 2021

As a gate valves supplier, I'd like to share it with you.

There are many types of gate valves, both in terms of structure or internal sealing, which also means that the difference in gate valve structure is also different in the application. What are the differences between our common wedge gate valves and parallel gate valves, and what are their characteristics? How to distinguish between wedge gate valves and parallel gate valves? Next, let’s carefully compare the wedge gate valves and parallel gate valves. To understand the difference structure and application of the gate width.

How to distinguish between wedge gate valve and parallel gate valve:

The internal structure of the wedge type and the parallel type is different. The wedge type means that the structure is a wedge type, that is, an oblique sealing structure. The parallel type is called a flat gate valve. Its characteristic gate is vertical, and there is a diversion hole in the middle of the gate. The switch is very portable, the pipe and the diameter are full diameter, so it is called the parallel type. From the appearance point of view, the parallel gate valve is shorter than the wedge gate valve, but the height is longer. There is a long dust cover on the parallel handwheel, which plays a role of dust blocking and indicating. There is no wedge. The sealing surface of the wedge gate valve is at a certain angle with the pipeline axis, that is, the two sealing surfaces are wedge-shaped gate valves. The size of the wedge's frequency slope angle mainly depends on the temperature of the medium. Generally, the higher the working temperature, the larger the angle taken to reduce the possibility of wedging of the gate during temperature changes. Wedge gate valve can be divided into double gate valve, single gate valve, flexible gate valve.

Parallel brake adjustment features:

The sealing surface of the parallel gate valve is parallel to the vertical centerline, so the sealing surface of the valve body and the gate plate are also parallel to each other. This kind of gate valve is a double gate valve. In order to make the valve body and the two sealing surfaces of the gate tightly contacted when it is closed, a double-sided thrust wedge sandwiched between the two gates is often used. In this way, when the valve is closed, the double-sided thrust sub-block contacts the bottom of the valve body and gradually receives force, and the double gate is pushed open so that the sealing surface of the gate is sealed and tightly attached to the valve body. This kind of double gate parallel gates are mostly used in small pipelines-like low-pressure pipelines.

Features of wedge gate valve:

The sealing surface of the wedge gate valve is at a certain angle with the vertical center line. The inlet valve that requires the higher the temperature of the medium has the larger the inclination angle to reduce the possibility of wedging the gate when the temperature changes. The wedge gate valve has single and double gate plates. The advantage of the double gate type is that the accuracy of the sealing and the angle is lower, and the temperature change is not easy to make the gate wedged. The seal surface wear can be compensated by gaskets. Especially after changing to an elastic gate, it can produce elastic deformation to compensate for the deviation in the angle processing of the sealing surface.
